Dr. Troum grew up in North Carolina where he attended medical school at Wake Forest University after graduating college from Emory University in Atlanta. He completed a residency in general surgery at Mercer University and then returned to Wake Forest for an orthopedic fellowship in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery. Dr. Troum is board certified in Surgery of the Hand by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) as well as a member of the prestigious American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH).
Dr. Troum has been practicing exclusively hand and upper extremity surgery for over 20 years and has been in the Dallas-Ft Worth community since 2000. He has published many journal articles and book chapters on topics including arthroscopy, vascular disease, hand infections, tumors, replantation, and various subjects in general surgery. He remains academically active as a consulting reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery and has appeared as a medical expert in the national media including the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Dr. Troum was also recognized by the Texas State Legislature when he received an honorary commission as Surgeon general of Texas in 2004.
