Dr Brezina was born and raised in Midland, Texas. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin with a BA from the Plan II honors program with an emphasis in philosophy. He then attended medical school at Texas Tech, and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Louisiana State University Shreveport. From there, Dr. Brezina accepted a position as the AO spine fellow in a one year combined orthopedic surgery/ neurosurgery program at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. This unique training experience is only available in a limited number of academic settings and allows for a comprehensive experience managing complex issues of the spine. He joined The Bone and Joint clinic immediately following his fellowship in 2008.
Dr. Brezina has co-authored textbook chapters addressing the origin and treatment of spine disorders. He has also contributed to academic publications and has given lectures and presentations at national spine and general orthopedic surgery meetings. He has an interest in treating disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine in adults. He has a special interest in adult degenerative scoliosis and is well trained in the newest surgical approaches and techniques. Dr. Brezina believes in a comprehensive approach toward treating disorders of the spine. Multimodality therapy, medications, and injections are a routine part initial non operative management of most disorders of the spine. When operative intervention is pursued, it is done following extensive discussions of the condition, risks, benefits, and alternative treatments available.
In his spare time, Dr. Brezina enjoys spending time with his family, amateur guitar, and traveling.
