No Falls (Fall Prevention)

Each year millions of Americans fall, including one out of four over age 65. Less than half tell their doctor. Falling once doubles your chances of falling again with one out of five falls causing a broken bone or head injury. Many people who fall without injury become afraid of falling. This fear may cause a person to cut down on their everyday activities leading to weakness and increased future chances of falling. We at Fort Worth Bone and Joint are committed to helping you with falls prevention!

Falls are preventable. Speak up, keep moving, check your eyes, and make your home safer.

Step 1 — Screening

You will be administered a screening questionnaire delivered via tablet. This risk screening focuses on background information, specifically prior fall history, incontinence episodes, pain levels, medications, living environment, etc. Then, the screening results highlight some important information laying the groundwork on risk factors identified impacting your conditions or functional independence level.

Step 2 — Assessing

In the exam room, our team will check simple performance tests specifically targeting standing balance, walking, and strength. These final metrics are added into the software and combined with the risk screening. Then, a report is generated based on the results that both highlights the risk factors identified and calculates specific intervention pathways to mitigate those risks based on severity.

Step 3 — Intervention

Our team will educate you on recommendations to reduce your falls and prescribe needed referrals/interventions to prevent a future fall. We can partner with a home health agency to perform a safety evaluation of your home and help you take the next steps. We can screen and treat you for osteoporosis to avoid future fractures. We can arrange for durable medical equipment like braces, reachers/graspers, canes, walkers, custom shoe insoles, and many more to help keep you safe from falls.
