Numbness or Pain in Your Hands or Fingers?

Our fellowship-trained hand specialists can get you back to work. to golf. to tennis. to life.

Working from home has many of us are spending more and more time on our computers. The repetitive motion of typing and using a mouse can lead to inflammation in the wrist, leading to pain or numbness in the hand or fingers.

The median nerve — the nerve that provides feeling and sensation to parts of the hand — passes through a narrow passageway in the wrist called the "carpal tunnel." Swelling of the carpal tunnel tissues due to overuse, injury or trauma can compress the median nerve at the wrist, causing tingling, numbness and pain. The carpal tunnel can also become smaller as a person ages, causing similar symptoms.

Hand numbness can be more than just annoying. If left untreated, the median nerve can become damaged leading to permanent loss of feeling or function in the hand.

Thankfully, the fellowship-trained hand specialists at Texas Health Care's Bone and Joint Clinic have multiple non-surgical and surgical treatment options to treat carpal tunnel syndrome
